Conference on History of African Americans in the Medical Professions

African American health professionals and scientists, from doctors to dentists to nurses to lay midwives to public health administrators, have had a major role in improving the health of all persons in the United States over the last 100 years, especially those of color, and yet little is known about these contributions.

This free conference, sponsored by the University of Virginia and hosted by the Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences, is designed to disseminate resources & scholarship focusing on the impact of African American health professionals, particularly in the 20th century
